Need You

They stay by fires, and serve high powers
With no ambitions, faithfully holding their positions on
The watch they keep, they need protecting so they never sleep
And it's not what you expected and you can't believe
You've lost the memories you must receive, and there's no place you'd rather be
And in the shadow of a mountain and the light of a dark moon
If we survive, I know we'll see each other soon
In every lie, there's a speck of truth
And you can't be sure that the world doesn't need you
There's strength in numbers, there's men who'll harm us
There's streams and rivers, there's gifts they'll give us
If we try, to go against a deep and bloodshot sky
There's much alarm but there's no surprise
The sun is out, the well is running dry, and we can see it in your eyes
And in the shadow of a mountain and the light of a dark moon
If we survive, I know we'll see each other soon
In every lie, there's a speck of truth
And you can't be sure that the world doesn't need
Ancient giant's woken from it's sleep (and no-one stands at all)
We all broke down in disbelief (and we live between the walls)
The map unfolds in real time (And you can't find your way)
It all builds up towards today
The world doesn't need you

For Naomi

Dreamt this in a scene of psychedelia
Woke to subtle scenes of total failure
The notes had formed a line, out of my reach of mind at the time, but I'm fine
But I remember sepias and blacks and whites
And I remember stars find their place within the night
And I remember trains that run along their lines
But none of it ever felt right.
Tried to renegotiate with this old mountain king
But he blocked the path that led to treasures held within
I drew my sword, fought the horde
That's when I knew I'd arrived, right on time
But I remember sepias and blacks and whites
And I remember stars find their place within the night
And I remember trains that run along their lines
But none of it ever felt right.
It's smoke and dagger, for cloaks and mirrors
And lightning strikes 3 times for the psycho killers
Saw something swagger out on the battlements
Battle plans are written up within the Evening Standard
Read all about it can't you see, that there is no space to breathe
And it's obvious to me that there's a kingdom on her knees
And there's life out in our streets, and now underneath our seas
And so we'll make no vacancies because there is no space to be
Now, do you see the stars and see a bunch of lights gone out?
Where life was once within and life is now without
Signals go back to the stars and we're seeking them out
I've been losing sleep when I hear footsteps on the floor
Of my home office with it's large and oaken doors.
Cold winter, travelled miles
Texas sunrise, nothing but a smile

Part of Your Life
04:24
|

The rain never stopped falling, but we never left the roof
We thought we heard you calling, but there was nothing we could do
We spent the night on the shores
We knew you weren't anymore
And what was that song, that you played one rainy night?
And how was I wrong, doing what I thought was right?
Your death was part of your life
I thought I drew a perfect circle of friends
I said I want to see you, and you said it depends
And night I'm sure you're listening
I might say more if it's interesting
And what did I miss? I changed my home address
I know that you wrote but you haven't reached me yet
Your life was part of your death
And what have we done to each other once again?
We went separate ways just to follow different trends
And what I have I done? I don't deserve the pain
I watched this world from the rooftop in the rain.

The Way You See It
04:13
|
|||
Town to town, coast to coast
it looks amazing through a lens
We shot this scene and then we built a world around it
And I've forgotten where it ends
Day to day, night to night
100,000 films are in the works
And you could put your life into your lyrics
But they won't mean a thing unless they're heard
And the way you see it's from the view of the man, with the fate of the film in his hands
And you could say 100,000,000 words but they'll hear the ones that they understand
Door to door, stage to stage
It became so hard to come unstuck
From the way we adhere to names
And I'll do my best to never mess this up
When these high heels are on my feet
And I'll move my lips to someone else's songs
This could end in some singular defeat but then our way of life will carry on
And the way you see it's from the view of the man who doesn't want to be a man anymore
And you could say one 100,000,000 words but the you've got to prove yourself on the floor
No price paid,
We took the world back to it's destined place
No wars fought,
Just for now our freedom won't be bought
Somehow, somewhere
This head of hair
Will run this house
It scares them out
And I watch the pieces fall into place as I watch the colour drain from your face
As we watch the states flip back to our side of the map of a house divided
And the way you see it's from the view of the man, who holds the very state of this house
And you could say 100,000,000 words but I reserve the right to never hear you out
